How to Install KDE neon.

  1. Download KDE neon user Edition
  2. Next, create bootable USB drive and boot your USB
  3. Go to the installer and follow the steps like Language, time zone, keyboard layout, installation type, etc.
  4. Finally “Restart Your Computer” KDE neon is Installed in your system.

You can download KDE neon 5.18.2 bootable ISO image at KDE neon official website. The Most important thing here always download officail ISO image.  It is updated every new feature of the KDE community adds the new software or changes for KDE neon. At this time (31 March 2020) KDE neon includes the KDE Plasma 5.18.2, the newest stable LTS version.

In the main KDE neon download page https://neon.kde.org/download, you see four selections of KDE neon, User Edition, Testing Edition, Unstable Edition, and Developer Edition. Choose the User Edition.

How to Install KDE neon

KDE neon installation is graphical installation so you have to follow the following steps:

Click on Install neon user icon on the desktop:

When you come to the KDE neon live desktop screen you have to run the installer, which is ‘install neon user’ icon on the desktop.

Select your language

Please choose the language to use for the install process. The language will be the default language for this computer.

Please choose your keyboard layout. The keyboard layout will be the default layout for your computer.

Update and other software option

  • Download updates while installing neon, this will update your all-new updates.
  • Install third-party software for graphics and WI-FI hardware and additional media formats (optional).

Disk installation type

  • Where would you like to install your neon distro, you have many options if you are a beginner or your computer is new so I suggest you use guided-use entire disk, it creates the all partition automatically.

How to create a manual partition in neon distro?

Here I will create four important manual partitions: “/“, “/boot“, “swap area“, “/home“.

Create a new empty partition table on your device.

Create the first partition in your system.

  1. Now select your free space and create the first partition
  2. Type of the new partition – Primary
  3. New partition size – depends on your harddisk
  4. Location for the new partition
  5. File system you use –  Ext4
  6. Mount point should be “/

  1. Now select your free space and create the second partition
  2. Type of the new partition – Primary
  3. New partition size – 500MB
  4. Location for the new partition
  5. File system you use –  Ext4
  6. Mount point should be “/boot

Create the third partition in your system.

  1. Now select your free space and create the third partition
  2. Type of the new partition – Primary
  3. New partition size – Double size of your physical RAM
  4. Location for the new partition
  5. File system you use –  swap area

  1. Now select your free space and create the fourth partition

  3. New partition size – Rest of the size
  4. Location for the new partition

So now  you have to click on Install Now your all partition is done and now partition table looks like this:

So now you have to confirm the new changes and click on continue to writhe this disk.

Set your time zone

Now select your location, so that the system can use your time zone to provide you bet services or fetch updates from the fastest server nearby you and set the clock to the correct local time and click on continue.

Create a user account with details

Now you have to set your full name and user name along with the password, and you have to set the hostname or computer’s name well and click on continue.

Restart your computer

Now KDE neon installation is going on it will take some time to finish so you have to take a rest a while. After the installation has finished you have to restart your compute and unplug the USB drive your KDE neon is installed on your computer. Happy KDE testing!
